Astrophytum myriostigma is a classic cactus among collectors, and not only for the beauty of the plant, but also for its incredible blooms.
The flowers in the type species are yellow and their petals constitute which range between 5 to 7 cm in diameter. They can appear solitary or forming groups of more than 8 flowers, which always is a visual spectacle.
In this case we want to show you a precious variation observed in an Astrophytum myriostigma cv. Onzuka, in which the morphology of the corolla is completely different to the usual, due to the presence of curly petals.
For some years now we have been working with this character, but it seems quite complex to inherit. Even so, we have obtained individuals in the offspring who have this characteristic floral morphology, so we hope to be able to fix the character in successive generations.
You can see the difference between usual and curly petals in the pictures.
